cockfighting

Though “sabong” – cockfighting – is illegal in many countries, it is not so in Philippines. In fact, it is a favourite pastime amongst them and can be considered a national sport. This is because anybody can participate in it as it is not expensive to acquire an eligible cock. Moreover it is a lucrative sport as winning a match earns the owner money from the bets placed by spectators. Furthermore, cockfighting in Philippines is unique with it being far more brutal and bloody because it only ends in death or bloody flight of the losing cock hence attracting more interest. Sharp razors are attached to the cock’s feet when fighting and adjusted to get the maximum impact with minimal movement. This Filipino sport has since generated interest internationally with American, Japanese etc breeders coming to Philippines to take part in competitions.
